04/04/2018 | Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda and GIMI Agreement Signed
The Ministry of Finance, Uganda invited Dr. Joseph Shevel, GIMI President, to finalise and sign a 5 year Scholarship Agreement. GIMI will grant 160 scholarships per year (for 20 participants, for each of the 8 districts). The plan is to train farmers on large farms in Water Management and Agriculture; in turn they will then train, smaller farmers in Uganda. The first group should start their training in Israel, during July 2018.
We predict a yearly increase of 5% in agriculture output, totalling a 25% increase over the 5 years, after the successful conclusion of this training plan. An integral part of the agreement is follow-up by Israeli experts coming to Uganda to ensure that the knowledge gained in Israel is being utilised proficiently.
The meeting was held with Mr. Godfrey Byamukama Kereere, Economic Development Policy & Research Department and was facilitated and attended by GIMI Graduates: Mrs. Ntitiri Pascasia (Passy) Washeba, Principal Economist and Dr. Peter Ngategize, Agricultural Economist and Mrs. Dorcus Otim, Senior Assistant Secretary.
